Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a new illness that can affect your lungs and airways. It’s caused by a virus called coronavirus.

The symptoms are:

  • a high temperature – you feel hot to touch on your chest or back
  • a new, continuous cough – this means you’ve started coughing repeatedly

Thursday 19 and Friday 20 March 2020

Driving tests due to take place on Thursday 19 and Friday 20 March 2020 have been postponed.

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) will automatically rebook your test, free of charge, as soon as possible. DVSA will send you another email with the new date and time as soon as it’s been rebooked.

When to stay at home

Stay at home for:

  • 7 days from when your symptoms started if you live alone
  • 14 days from the first day someone in your home becomes ill if you live with others

You must not go to your driving test or theory test if you have to stay at home. Your test will not go ahead if you have these symptoms.

This applies to all types of theory tests, driving tests and approved driving instructor (ADI) standards checks.

For driving tests, this applies to both you and your driving instructor, or anyone accompanying you in the vehicle.

Cancel or rearrange your test if you have coronavirus symptoms

You need to cancel or rearrange your test if you have coronavirus symptoms.

You will be able to do this free of charge, even if it’s at short notice.

How you do this depends on when your test is.

If your test is more than 3 clear working days away

You can cancel or change your appointment online if it’s more than 3 clear working days away.

Working days do not include Sundays and public holidays.

Use the service to:

Theory tests within the next 3 working days

Email DVSA to cancel or change your appointment if your test is within the next 3 working days.

You’ll need to give your:

  • full name (as shown on your driving licence)
  • driving licence number
  • test booking reference
  • full address and postcode
  • date of birth

Email DVSA to cancel or change your appointment if your test is within the next 3 working days.

You’ll need to give your:

  • full name (as shown on your driving licence)
  • driving licence number
  • test booking reference

If your test is cancelled by DVSA for another reason

DVSA might have to cancel your test for other reasons, for example, if the examiner is unwell.

You’ll be sent a new date for your test if this happens. You can change the date if it’s not suitable.

You can apply for a refund of out-of-pocket expensesif DVSA cancels your test at short notice.

Covid-19: Lets take early precaution before it is late

1. How to protect yourself against Covid-19/ Corona Virus?  

A. Manage your health

– Keep a close watch on your body for symptoms

– Good personal hygiene:

– Avoid touching your face

– Cover your mouth with a tissue paper when coughing or sneezing, and dispose the soiled tissue paper in the rubbish bin immediately

– Seek medical attention promptly if you are feeling unwell

B. Maintain clean hands

– Practice regular hand washing with soap and water

C. Minimise contact with those unwell

– Avoid close contact with people who are unwell or showing symptoms of illness

– Mask up when unwell

– If you are feeling unwell, stay at home and avoid social gatherings.

–  Avoid taking public transport where possible.

D. Monitor the news

E. If you are going overseas, adopt the following precautions at all times:

– Avoid contact with live animals including poultry and birds, and consumption of raw and under-cooked meats

– Avoid crowded places and close contact with people who are unwell or showing symptoms of illness

– Observe good personal hygiene

– Practice frequent hand washing with soap 

2. Symptoms of Covid-19 , People may experience:

sore throat

cough

fever

difficulty breathing (severe cases)
